The Celebration of Halloween

Should Christians Celebrate Halloween?

This question is not a new one but it does seem to be gaining favor with Christians more and more, here of late. I see an increased number of articles on why it could be acceptable for Christians to be involved with this day of promoting the under world, and the witches and demons that run it.

DEUTERONOMY 18:9-13 is clear that the objects of focus in Halloween are an abomination to God and those things hurt our relationship with God. II CHRONICLES 33:6 confirms what is said in DEUTERONOMY 18, but the new position I see in the thinking of Christianity is that we can celebrate a questionable pagan holiday if we do it for different reasons! I’ve even heard said that Christians should be a light in this dark day. This of course is nonsense in a capital amount. The Bible is clear that Christians should be a light in this world by being recognizably separate from the world, ROMANS 12:1 (And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. ) Having a special day that looks just like Halloween on the day of Halloween with candy and pumpkins craving would not be separate from the world, in my opinion.

Is it a sin for a Christian to do something special on this day in question? The answer is emphatically No!!! Satan can however use the good motives of Christian people for evil. In 1CORINTHIANS 10:28-31 (But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake, for the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, 29.Conscience, I say not thine own but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man’s conscience?30. For if I by grace be partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for whisk I give thanks?31. Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of God.) Paul is saying that if you partake in something that is not a sin, but it looks like a sin to others, that you might cause them to fall by you witness. So I submit that at the very best; this is the final threshold that Christians should not cross with Halloween. If Christians are celebrating on the day or night of Halloween and that celebration can not be clearly seen by others as something separate from Halloween. Then your witness is that Halloween, in all of it’s form, is acceptable to you as a Christian. Verse 31 says (Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of God.) The core of Halloween is not about God no matter how you cut it, but about Satan and all that he represents. I feel that as informed Christians we should have nothing to do with this day because the Bible says it’s promoting abdominal thing, but at the very least it could send a confusing message to those watching us and cause them to stumble. Even the unbeliever can see this is not a Holy Day, so to see those that claim to follow a Holy God participating in such a tradition would easily hurt your positive witness for Christ.

I don’t write this in judgment of anyone but rather with love and hope that all may find a closer relationship with Christ Jesus. Only through Bible truth can such a relationship exist. So I hope to shed a more Biblical view on Halloween
